Hunter with a Pincer grasp

While mumchkin was waiting for his supper, I gave him a sip of my sweetened milk cocoa. He loved it and wanted some more. I gave him another sip. Yum yum. He left my arms and went to explore then came back and sat a distance away. I glanced at him, he was smacking his lips and making these sucking sounds, I thought, that was some yummy cocoa. The sucking and lip smacking continued and now his hands were added to the lip smacking. I realise he didn't touch the cocoa with his hands. sometimes when he takes something yummy, he puts his hands in his mouth to capture the yummies. So what is going on? I watch closely, he is still suckling his hands, but he doesn't have that as part of his repertoire.  I wonder whether he has decided to start suckling his thumbs and fingers. Then I see a struggle to keep something within his hands. In that tiny forceful grip. If a baby has ever grabbed at something that you want to remove from their hands that is the grip.  Am thinking a t...

Curious Little Hands

These tiny precious hands that hold my face as he looks at me like he is mapping my face into his hands.  Molding me to fit him. Sometimes as he tries to hold my face, I receive sharp precise slaps on both cheeks. They are more precious as he pulls my hair when he is learning to hold. He doesn't know yet that using my hair as an anchor to lift himself up is painful for me but as he stands he has a huge smile that shows his two little milk teeth and I smile too, my baby is growing.  The little hands know how to hold toys in each hand and bang bang, clang clang, the sounds they make are new each time and foreign to him and he bangs some more on the floor, on the table, on the chair against his hand and mine. All new sounds worth experimenting on.  When he hears a song, his precious little hands clap and clap with joy, wave in the air and he tries to repeat the song too. When you remember that the precious little hands are learning in every moment, you are filled with jo...

Kung Fu Fighting!!!

After my significant other read the previous article, he asked me when would i be kicking him out of bed since out mumchkin needs to stay close to the mommy so mumchkin doesn't yell.  I think he was thinking, what now?!!  Kick who out of where?, kick him out so he cries into the night. No way, Jose.  You should know, we love our sleep, the most difficult time for us was when our lovely lovely mumchkin was suffering from colic. The suffering, the sleepless nights. Asking your mumchkin what do you want. Murder all the songs with your tuneless singing  but they keep mumchkin calm, so who cares about carrying a tune. Do you know I dozed off with munchkin on my lap with my back on the headboard coz you put him down he wakes up and yells for another hour and it's the dead of the night.  A whole hour of crying. I was distraught. How does a small hooman, tiny little hooman cry for a whole hour. Our cat, his sister, decided enough was enough, she left. She eventually ...
