Shocking evening walk

Today I was walking home. I walk home in the evening on the days that the rain has taken pity on us and its not raining elephants and buffaloes.  The rain really knows how to rain in this place.  You will not require an umbrella when it rains here, since you will be as wet as if you did not have an umbrella to cover your precious hair.

So there we are, with my pal, just strolling (daily exercise and all that) when we noticed this couple on a motorcycle stop across the road. Note that two passengers should not be on a motorcycle, its very illegal and unsafe especially fatally dangerous if none of you have a helmet on. So imagine three unhelmeted people on the mototcycle as they race along the road.

Back to the man and woman, I thought they had reached their destination only to realise that there were no houses in the area. Then I see a fist flying towards the woman's face and a fist ensues.  The two are rolling on the public road uncaring about the moving cars, motorcycles, bicycles and people as each tries to land a blow at the other. When I saw the first fist flying I started moving towards them but my pal held me back, she asked me what if I also got a fist for my efforts. So I stayed back. Self preservation. 

The woman did not scream the entire time, , when she was receiving blows to her face, kicks to her face,neck and breasts. Her face was even being stomped on! We stood across the road shouting at the man to stop and for the motorcycle rider to separate them. I even thought that the man would kill her as he was kicking her face so hard.

At last the man heard us and separated them. I would have thought that after being beaten almost senseless once the fight was over the woman would run for the hills but she just stood there until the man calmed down and they got on the the same motorcycle and rode off into the sunset.

I am appalled and shocked that such can happen. I am still trying to understand what would make you stay with someone after such an ordeal? Why go home with your batterer? How many times are you beaten like a stray dog? If such a beating can happen in a public place, what happens behind closed doors? What reasons do you have to justify why you let another human being raise their hand against you?

I still believe that there is no excuse for someone to raise their hand against another especially when the other person is helpless. It can be a man or woman, it does not justify beating another. And no one should be willing to stay in such a relationship. Put yourself in another person's shoes and see how well the shoe would fit you.

Sometime back around when mumchkin was about 4 months his grandmother, my mother bought him a pink and turquoise bus. Au Naturel

In the endeavor to give the best your mumchkin, you can go to all lengths under the sun. Read all organic blogs in keeping away chemicals from your loved one.  So I started reading about detergents to use on clothes and turns out you should only rinse your baby clothes in the purest water from the streams up in Mt. Kenya. All detergents contain irritants and should not touch the skin of your baby. Then i read about baby oil and soap. All soap isn't good soap, good organic soap is without sulphates and should only cost you an arm and a leg. Oils contain unnatural fragrances and additives and are really not oil but a derivative of crude oil. Now do you want fossils on your baby? An extinct dinosaur on my brand new baby. No no. So we discussed this difficult as a family and brainstormed for days and finally decided we shall have coconut oil. A family meeting to discuss baby oil!! The great big hike

Anyone who knows me will tell you I avoid any form of exercise like the plague. I am not athletic and I acknowledge I am very unfit.  I woke up on the morning of the hike that had been planned for the past month, which I had paid for, I turned in bed made myself more comfortable and had an internal dialogue where the majority decided I am not going up the hill.   Mumchkin's dad asks me "aren't you supposed to be going for the hike to Menengai Crater". I told him categorically, I am not going and that I didn't welcome any follow-up to the conversation.  At around 8 o'clock as am trying to come up with an excuse for the group, when am sure there is no going up a treacherous mountain since we are supposed to take off at 7.30 am and am already late, I log into WhatsApp and I see that the group has not yet left.
